Who am I.....
My name is Melissa Hammer I am 36 years old. Born and raised in Kent City, Mi. I am a mother of two beautiful children a son and daughter 18 and 13 years old. They are every reason I have worked so hard to achieve any and all goals in my life!!!
I have been a animal lover and owner all of my life. I was the kid trying to save every animal from being hurt or alone. A animal would never be in distress if I could have had it my way. Although my parents didn't always agree. I have had some amazing experiences with pets all my life.I bred American Bulldogs for 10 years. I went to many dog shows and won some trophies and many ribbons in my days of showing the working bulldog. I learned alot about the care and dedication it takes to be a breeder. I was surrogate mother for dams when they needed me. Often lived in close quarters with them during raising of puppies. I thoroughly enjoyed my bulldog days. As much as I love dogs they arent the only animals im passionate about. I love all animals, and horses are a huge part of mine, my mother, and my daughters life. I have loved horses since the day I was born. I currently have 4 horses of my own. My daughter and I are western pleasure riders, and do the occasional barrel and jumping training with our horses. Just for fun no competition...yet.
WHY DOG GROOMING??....
With all this love and passion in my heart with animals I often dreamed of a job that would involve working with animals. Sometimes it takes some bumps in the road to get where you need to be. Four years ago I decided grooming pets would be something I would enjoy as a career. I love fashion and I love animals. PERFECT!! I was lucky to find a master groomer of many years in my location ( Portage, Mi where I lived temporarily) to take me on and show me the ropes. To my surprise it wasn't as easy as it looked. However she was a wonderful teacher, and she took a lot of time to train me. After a year of extensive training, patience, trial and error, I got it!!! I knew I could do this. I had built a clientele and met wonderful people and dogs and kitties. I just knew this was my calling and my ultimate goal was to own my own salon, but it was time to move back home.I moved to Sparta and opened up a home salon in Kent City residing in my wonderful mothers garage converted pet salon. It was perfect and I was blessed with wonderful customers, and was very grateful for the space, but It was time, after 3 years of experience, to move on up. So here I am now. I reached my goal!!! I am Feeling blessed, and thankful. Thanking God for all the people and pets who helped make this happen. My dream come true!!
MY GOALS.....
I am and will always be striving to make this a very comfortable, fun environment for all pets who walk through my doors. I am very patient and understanding to all pets needs. From cats who hate water( what cat likes water?) to dogs who hate nails done. Senior pets that need lots of patience and encouragement..along with breaks to rest. Young pets who cant sit still cause everything is sooo exciting. To pets that are scared do to bad experiences, abuse, or temperment issues. I am comfortable handling all pets, and completely understanding to their individual needs taking the time that each pet needs to get the job done right!!!
